The order of the objects matters: the bottom one in the layers panel is the one the operation is done to, the other is the parameter. Just select the objects you want to combine and click on the chosen operation. I have tried separately Clip, Mask and Boolean operations but Inkscape says it can't cut - do node operations - on the bitmap. 4 Answers Sorted by: 3 The Boolean operators are in the top right corner of the toolbar. Many of us have sharpened this skill in Photoshop or GIMP where background removals can be done in the same way. Hints: You need less nodes and get smoother result if you practice to draw handles to the nodes. OK, the patterned spotty-dog then looks OK but has the solid white square stencil surround, so I can't freely tesselate the shapes without the squares overlapping other dogs and obscuring the background. I had so many design ideas in my head, and was able to translate many of them using a raster (jpg) editor like Photoshop or Affinity Photo and Cricut Design. 1 Answer Sorted by: 0 Be sure you have a closed curve. Next, import a photo of black spots, and place this white dog-stencil over it (I use a photo editor (Affinity / Gimp) to scale and size the pattern bitmap to same size as object final size (40x40mm). The remaining square surround forms a white mask with a dog silhouette cut out of it. When I do Layer -> Geometry -> Subtract, it subtracts the entire square outline that the top layer image is contained in, not the shape itself. (No 3D-wrapping needed, I'd use Blender for that.) The finished shape should occupy the object's outline alone, with no visible square surround, so it can be arbitrarily entwined with others like it, against an overall page background.Įxample: Draw dog outline, draw square around it and fill with white. I am attempting to create a 'cookie-cutter' stencil (outline, silhouette) of a hand-drawn object, and use it to cut out a flat shape from an imported bitmap photo eg. grass texture. Glass mosaic tiles and mosaic mosaic tiles can both be cut with a manual tile. Can InkScape cut out shapes from bitmaps?
